I am excited to share with you the first edition of Energy Lounge, my new monthly e-zine (electronic magazine). Create your own Lounge atmosphere wherever you happen to be. Take a moment and let time stand still.     Breathe.     No bills.     No projects.    No errands.    No phone calls.    (Unless of course you are so excited to share this with someone that you need it do it right away! Hint:  look for the "forward to a friend" link at the bottom.)

What is Life = eN ?
On my website, I share my idea of Life = eN. Just what does this mean? Life is energy, energy is life. Prana. Life force. Chi. Ki. Power. Vigor. What energy are you expending, what energy do you display? Are you living your life or is life sucking up every ounce of energy you have? I invite you to share in this journey with me so that you may live your life and for those of you who study yoga, live your yoga.

I also took Life = eN in a different direction, besides e=energy, I noticed all the other words that begin with the letter e that I find so meaningful in life:  explore, enjoy, enthusiasm, empathy, excitement. I am sure you can add more to the list. In these e-zine issues I will share my insights and tie them in with the elements and the chakras...while presenting them in a functional manner so everyone can understand and relate to the information.

I was just reading from Deepak Chopra’s Ageless Body, Timeless Mind where he  suggests a new assumption:  In their essential state, our bodies are composed of energy and information, not solid matter. This energy and information is an outcropping of infinite fields of energy and information spanning the universe.

Whoa! I know I had to retake physics but what did he say?! What do you mean my body is not solid? Well, I guess it is a little cushy around my midsection! It is things like this we will explore. So take a moment to explore and enjoy. Welcome to Energy Lounge!

Functional Energy...Make your activities of daily living easier
Squats/Utkatasana

An excellent exercise to strengthen the legs as well as stabilize the knees and hips. You can do this right now in a subtle manner so that it won’t raise eyebrows from everyone in the coffee house or if someone walks into your cubicle or office.

  • While seated in a chair, place your feet solid on the floor, hip width apart.

  • Lean forward in a straight line from the top of your head to your sit bones (you can feel these bones against the seat, especially if you are on a hard chair).

  • Lift yourself off the chair but still feel the chair underneath you.

  • Knees are tracking over your second or third toes but not going so far over that you are feeling undue stress on your knees.

  • Option reach the arms overhead placing yourself in a lightning bolt pose.

  • Hold for the count of 5.

  • Sit back down.

  • Repeat at least 10 times.

Variations:
Full Chair Squats
: Simply stand up and sit back down

Wall Squat: Place your back against the wall and sit and hold as if you were in a chair.

Ball Squat: Same as the wall squat only place a ball against your back against the wall and squat as low as you can without irritating your knees.

Squat jumps: With legs shoulder width apart squat down no lower than where your hips are the same height as your knees then jump up as high as you can. Land as softly as you can on the ball of your foot then the heel. If you are really feeling good and have no knee injuries, touch the floor with your hands, then jump.

In the gym: Ask one of the trainers about the Smith machine, leg press, hack squats and/or using dumb bells with squats. Trainers love to show you new exercises and make sure you are doing them correctly. That’s what they are there for, so utilize your membership!

Exhaling Toward Peace

Did you know that if you exhale slowly and slow your breath rate that it can also slow your heart rate...as well as the brain waves and thoughts running around in your head? So relax, take a deep breath in and exhale.
